CONGENITAL HEART DISEASE IN CHILDREN AND ADULTS
Congenital heart disease refers to problems with the structure and function of the heart caused by abnormal development before birth.
Symptoms depend on the specific condition. Although congenital heart disease is present at birth, symptoms may not be immediately apparent. Defects such as coarctation of the aorta may not cause problems for many years.
Treatment depends on the specific condition. Some congenital heart diseases can be treated with medication alone, while others require one or more surgeries.

What is a pacemaker?
A pacemaker is a small device implanted under the skin, usually below the collarbone.
The device provides therapy to treat irregular, interrupted, or slow heart rhythms. -
What is chest pain / angina?
It is described as discomfort, pressure, an unpleasant sensation, or burning in part of the chest.
It usually begins suddenly and may radiate to the left arm, jaw, shoulder, back, or neck.
It may also be accompanied by palpitations, dizziness, excessive sweating, shortness of breath, and other symptoms. -
What are congenital heart diseases?
Congenital heart diseases are heart conditions that develop before birth.
In Mexico, their frequency is estimated at approximately 0.8% to 1.2% of newborns.
